“Where did the universe come from?” Almost every individual on this huge mass of land would have asked this question at one point of time in their life. But there is one person who made it the purpose of his life and worked towards it. Stephen Hawking, the man who lived as a Cosmologist, Author, Mathematician, Astrophysicist etc.., has passed away at the age of 76 at his home in Cambridge.
Stephen Hawking was always known to be different in his work. Right from school days, he exhibited an extraordinary level of intelligence in mathematics and physics and he had the capability to learn loads of lessons in a short span of time. Nothing seemed to interest him until the mysteries of the origin of universe entered his mind. But unfortunately, before he could start his research on the mysterious topic, he was struck by a disease which the doctors diagnosed it to be as ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) – a fatal disease which would shut down the neural functioning. The doctors said Stephen has only a few more years to live, three years to be exact leaving him shattered & disappointed.
But later, he however realized that life is worthy to live and there are a lot of things to do. Luckily for him, his disease has started to stabilize. Hawking seemed to be intact with his brain and started working on his research about Black holes. All his hard work bore fruit when he discovered that Black holes were not completely black and they emit radiation and would eventually evaporate and disappear as time passes. He sensed that this might as well as could be the beginning of his question which he has explained in his book A Brief History of Time, not to mention that it has sold more than 10 million copies around the world. Similarly, Hawking has made a lot of major astounding contributions to his field.
His works & contributions have been recognized worldwide and he has received a number of awards and honors as a token of appreciation. The Albert Einstein Medal in 1979, Presidential Medal of Freedom in the year 2009 by Barack Obama, Adams Price in 1966 turning out to be quite a lengthy list.
Stephen Hawking has been one of the world’s ambitious & renowned human who is known for his ability to break his physical barriers and the one who pushed his intellectual mind beyond boundaries. His strong determination and will power teaches us that it is our perspective towards life that makes us achieve what we are intended to and barriers are not barriers until we consider them as one. The brilliant physicist is now among the stars, looking down upon us as we work for the betterment of the society.
