The launch took place at NASA’s Canaveral Air Force Station in the US state of Florida on February 6th, 2018 at 3:45 pm EST. Falcon Heavy, the most awaited Space X project which had been planned and worked for more than a decade has finally made its maiden voyage breaking the barriers.
Elon Musk, owner of Space X has been planning from the year 2004 and unveiled the plan for Falcon Heavy publicly at a Washington DC news conference in April 2011. Since then, Space X has been working tirelessly to accomplish their plan. Though the launch was delayed five years due to a number of factors, they have finally launched Falcon Heavy into space!
Falcon Heavy is the world’s most powerful operational rocket as of February 2018. With the ability to lift a massive 141,000 lb, it has become the largest rocket after NASA’s Saturn V Booster. Falcon Heavy is bolted with three Falcon 9s together making it impeccable with an astonishing number of 27 engines within it.
Though it carries Musk’s cherry-red Tesla sports car as a dummy payload, Falcon Heavy is designed with the idea to carry humans into space and establish the possibility of flying missions with people to Mars and the Moon. In future, Falcon Heavy might be used to launch satellite probes into space orbits. As of now, there are no crewed missions planned but who knows what the future might behold? We could end up finding an entire new civilization or something new which we haven’t heard or seen before!
Space X has planned missions with the U.S Airforce scheduled in the month of June and another mission somewhere during late 2018 involving Saudi Arabian Communications Satellites. Space X will charge about $90 million for its launch services using a Falcon Heavy.
Elon Musk said “I had this image of this giant explosion on the pad, with wheels bouncing down the road and the logo landing somewhere with a thud. But fortunately, that’s not what happened, crazy things come true” post-launch.
When great ideas are brought to life, we end up making a better home for ourselves and the world. We witness technology growing around us every single day and what Musk’s Space X has accomplished is truly the hopes of building a better and a brighter future. This is further evidence letting us know that we do push ourselves to discover more. As Space X currently has a lot to deal with, let’s wait to know what more they can do!
